A customer in the alternative energy industry contracted us to produce this component utilizing our metal stamping capabilities. We provided the customer with initial units fabricated by using one of our 4,000-watt lasers.
Upon approval the customer requested a pre-production run of 55,000 pieces. The problem was that they needed the order before we could fabricate the tooling required for stamping. Fortunately, we were able to meet this requirement by producing the run on our Amada laser cutting equipment. The finished part required minimal tolerances, which our advanced laser cutting system was easily able to maintain. The part was made of A572 grade 50 steel, and measured 128mm in length, 172mm in width, and 7.9mm in thickness, and featured a natural finish.
As with all of our laser cut or progressive die stamping products, a high level of quality control is maintained throughout the run. The remainder of the run was completed on our 800-ton press; we produced the pre-run order with a two week lead time and the remaining 945,000 over an 18 month period.
