Progressive Die Stamping of 4130 Chrome Moly Steel for the Automotive Industry

A customer in the automotive industry approached us to produce this Metric Stat-O-Seal which was to be used within an automotive application. To save on production costs, we designed the tooling to allow 3-up production, or 3 parts to be stamped per stroke of the press.

The progressive die stamping was performed on a 175 ton press that utilizes an automated production line.  We are able to meet tolerances of ± 0.002" for this product. It was of 4130 chrome molybdenum steel, which met SAE AMS 6350/6351 standards. All parts received extensive dimensional testing as well as zinc plating and heat treating.

Prior to production, first article samples were put through 72 hour salt spray corrosion testing, which was in accordance with ASTM B117 standard for corrosion acceptance. This ensured that the parts would stand up to years of use on the road. For more information on this project see the table below or contact us directly.
